The Whisperdrum was born from a collaboration with Darrin Madafferi, an Australian ceramicist.
The instrument is a large hollow glazed ceramic “donut” that resonates like a flute and features several tuning holes.
A thin membrane stretched across one side of the instrument allows the musician to play the drum while blowing into the frame, creating an evocative blend of sounds that are both simple and ancient.
